In the beginning, Canning Town as we know it today was divided into two areas. Men that worked on building the docks were housed in Canning Town North, but the shipbuilding workers and their families were housed in Hallsville Quarter, the very location Makers Yard sits on. Shipbuilding and ironworks were industries that put Canning Town on the map.
Makers Yard isn’t just about the ship builders though. It’s about the people that made Canning Town what it is today: the entrepreneurial engineers, suffragettes, and ministers who created safe homes for the homeless. We wanted to continue this fashion and make this location a place for innovators and entrepreneurs alike.
